ProPowerHost -Professional Domain Name Registration and website hosting

Using WordPress to make a blog with ProPowerHost

Our Economy, Deluxe and Premium linux hosting plans include several blogging (journal, personal website) plugins including WordPress.

We Suggest you do our free included auto install.

Auto Install: Log in to your ProPowerHost account, Select webhosting, My hosting accounts, Open the control panel for your domain. Go to Value applications in your control panel. Click other option and then WordPress. Follow insrtuctions to install.

once fully installed edit it it with

http://yoursitename.com/wp-login.php or http://yoursitename.com/blognamehere/wp-login.php or http://yoursitename.com/wordpress/wp-login.php
will be some ways you might access it for editing. It actually depends on what you named your wordpress folder, if anything at all during auto install. To let readers read it will look something like http://yoursitename.com/wordpress/
There are some cool themes you can use to add instant style. See the wordpress Site for more Ideas and plugins, or explore the interface.

OR If you prefer, you can instead do a manual install to your ProPowerHost web hosting account. You must have the Linux version web hosting account.

If you decide to do a manual upgrade, follow all instuctions, and make a complete backupup of all wordpress files and folders.. That means Use an ftp program to download them from your site to your home computer. Count on reinstalling that backup(reuploading the files you downloaded). Many Problems can occur in an upgrade. Typical problems include not uploading all the files. Sometimes ftp drops files. If you encounter a problem reupload your files again first! To get upgrade instructions go to wordpress site. Follow instructions there exactly!! For more on ftp see website tools.

Brand New Manual Install (Do Not use for Upgrades):

Download the latest WordPress to your computer and uncompress it.

Then log on to your hosting account and create a mysql database. Directions: Sign in to your ProPowerHost hosting account. Hold your mouse over the Web Hosting button and click My Hosting Accounts. Under control panel, click, open. Click Databases, MYSQL. Click create a new database. Fill in the username and password fields. The username will be the name of the database. Click continue. Click create database. You may have to wait a couple of minutes for the database to setup. When the database is setup, Click the eye icon or database name, and copy the hostname exactly. It is suggested you use the copy and paste feature of your mouse to make it easier. You will need this shortly.

Make some minor edits. Go to the WordPress folder you uncompressed on your computer. Open the folder. Right click on wp-config-sample.php (depending on windows version you may not see the .php) and left click on open with. Select and click notepad. Users of non windows operating systems would edit these files in their own programs.

Replace name here (in example below- name in actual file different) with the database name you chose. For these examples, the text names of only your edit areas were changed for better understanding. The single 'quotes' on either side of your database name entry and all other code must stay.
define('DB_NAME', 'namehere');
define('DB_USER', 'namehere');

Enter the Password where it says passwordhere.
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'passwordhere');

Enter the hostname you copied before, where it says localhost. (Here's your(nevermind) 1% odds).
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

Now, click file, save as. Name it wp-config.php
Save as type, click the pull down triangle and select All files.
Click SAVE.

Upload the, complete wordpress folder and files inside it to your webspace. If you want to have access your blog from a folder like: http://yoursitename/blog , then simply rename the wordpress folder to any name you want (blog in this example). If you want to access it directly from http://yoursitename.com, then copy all files in the folder directly to your webspace without the folder.

Open your web browser and type http://yoursitename.com/wp-admin/install.php
or, if in a folder
http://yoursitename/blognamehere/wp-admin/install.php Depending on the way you chose to upload it. Replace blognamehere with your folder name. Follow online setup instructions. Write down given password carefully.

http://yoursitename.com/wp-login.php or http://yoursitename.com/blognamehere/wp-login.php
might be some ways you can access your blog for editing after a complete online install. It actually depends what you named the wordpress folder if anything. To let readers read it will look something like http://yoursitename.com/wordpress/

There are some cool themes you can use to add instant style. See the wordpress site for tips and plugins or simply explore the interface!
